Consignment Policy for Rosetta Books
Thank you for considering Rosetta Books for consignment sales. We are pleased to offer this service to local authors, publishers, and other book sellers who wish to showcase their titles in our store.
Please review the following guidelines carefully before submitting your consignment proposal by email. We do not accept consignment proposals in-store, however, you may contact us if you have any queries about the process.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for consignment at Rosetta Books, authors of books must reside within the Sunshine Coast area and have a marketing plan that includes social media promotion. Title(s) must meet the following criteria:
1. Be a new book in good condition (no used, damaged or defective copies)
2. Have a valid ISBN number
3. Be published within the last two years
4. Be professionally edited and produced
5. Have a marketable cover design and content that aligns with our store's genre focus (see below)
Genre Focus:
Our store stocks fiction in the categories of crime, fantasy and sci-fi, romance, historical and contemporary fiction, YA and children’s fiction. Memoir and non-fiction should have an appeal for our market. Priority will be given to books that fit our established markets and categories.
Consignment Terms:
Commission Rate: We charge a commission rate of 40% on all consignment sales. This percentage is calculated based on the retail price of each book sold. You may nominate a sale price at any time during the consignment period, in which case commission will be paid on the sale price.
Payment Terms: We will pay consignors within 30 days after the end of each quarter in which the sale has occurred. Payment will be issued via bank transfer.
Inventory Management: We require consignors to maintain accurate inventory records and inform us when titles are sold out. We reserve the right to accept or decline replenishment of titles based on sales history.
Return Policy: We accept returns from customers within 30 days and offer a full refund (for faulty books) or exchange. If a customer returns a consigned book that is faulty, the consignor is responsible for providing a replacement copy.
Marketing: We expect that consignors have a clear marketing strategy and will actively promote their titles, including tagging us in social media posts to inform readers that the book is available at Rosetta Books. We can offer limited marketing support, including in-store display, social media mentions, and email newsletters. However, please note that we cannot guarantee specific marketing activities for every title.
Delivery & Handling: Consignors are responsible for delivering books to our store at their expense. Once received, we will be solely responsible for storage, processing, and shelving of consigned books. Books are placed on consignment at the authors’ risk and while all care is taken, any loss or damage will be borne by the author.
Reporting: We provide remittance reports to consignors upon payment. It is the responsibility of the consignor to monitor sales performance and keep track of inventory levels.
Agreement Duration: Our standard consignment agreement duration is 90 days. After this period, you will be requested to collect unsold books, unless otherwise agreed by both parties. We will dispose of books not collected 90 days after being given such notice.
Author Signings: We offer author signings of consigned books based on availability. Author signings normally occur between 10:00am and 2:00pm on Saturdays unless otherwise agreed. These consignment terms apply to books sold during author signings.
Author Events: We can offer space for events such as book launches and workshops. Contact us at reading@rosettabooks.com.au to discuss availability and cost. These consignment terms apply to books sold during events.
Termination: Either party may terminate this agreement with 14 days' written notice. Upon termination, you will be required to collect unsold books. Books will be disposed of if not collected 90 days after being given such notice.
